Our Story

Trotters today
The story of Trotters began in 1990 when our founder Sophie Mirman and Richard Ross opened our first store on the Kings Road, in Chelsea. From day one, their family passion shone through; this was to create a safe and welcoming destination for beautifully made childrenswear, footwear, gifts and services such as a very first haircut, or all important shoe fitting.

Making Childhood memories
Everything in this first store was designed to make children feel excited and welcome. A place to create childhood memories. From the train in the shoe department, the fish tanks in hairdressing, brimming with colour and life. Dunwoody N Trotter certificates were given for special occasions, with many parents of today telling us they still have these! Above all, the teams constantly strived to create uniquely British clothes, accessories, and footwear - designed in London and made in Europe, full of craftsmanship and design.

Trotters today
Though much has changed since Trotters began nearly thirty five years ago, the values of the business remain the same. We have grown a lot, but have never grown out of making Trotters safe, happy and filled with sunshine. Today, we have five flagship and neighbourhood stores in London, with concessions in Harrods, Liberty and Selfridges. Our international business is expanding and through our UK and US sites, and we deliver all around the world.

Our collections and brands
In addition to our Trotters own label collections, we are proud of the family of unique brands that we own. More than 10 labels that are exclusive to us, from Adelina, Confiture, Lily Rose and Petit Breton. From our newborn babies’ organic cotton pieces, through to pre-walking and toddlers collections, knitwear, co-ords, party dresses, and simply special pieces for childhood fun - we design, and constantly redefine everything your child might wear for the everyday, the special occasions, and the passing down of much loved pieces to family and friends.

Our partners
We have worked with many of our suppliers and workshops for many, many years. Some since the very beginning. We design our collections from our London studio and aim to produce as locally to production sources as much as possible. Most of our factories are family run, multi generational and Europe based. Our world famous Hampton ™ canvas shoes for example are made in Spain, whilst each of our heritage wool and velvet coats is hand made in a small family run factory in Portugal. A little further afield, we work closely with fabulous skilled teams in Madagascar for hand smocking, and India for intricate embroidery.

Our London studio

Timeless design, with fun and function
Many characters are very much part of the Trotters’ DNA. Jemima, Augustus the lion, Sebastian the car, and our marching Guardsman - a few examples of much loved designs that have evolved over the years. We are delighted to worked with iconic British brand Liberty in creating collections, and our Rupert smocked sets, Carline party dresses and washable wool motif jumpers such as Here Comes Trouble have been part of childhood memories since the early 1990s.

Attention to detail
Our team is passionate about getting the details right. From newborn to around 11 years old, we grade our sizes for every collection, trying each piece on a mannequin to confirm the fit is correct. We know how busy parents and carers are, so we make our pieces easy to look after, wash well, with detailed care instructions and the ability to last for years to come.
